ABOUT THE TEACHER
Anjuli Bhattacharyya is a seasoned dance artist, educator, and creative movement facilitator with over 25 years of experience exploring embodiment and artistic expression. For 12 years, she has served as Rehearsal Director for Catapult Entertainment, an internationally recognized shadow-dance company celebrated for its imaginative fusion of dance, theatre, silhouette illusion, and storytelling, reaching audiences worldwide — including millions through America’s Got Talent. Her work with Catapult centers on the nuances of visual art, spatial awareness, understanding that the whole is greater than the part, exploration, and imagination, and she has been performing with the company since 2015.
Raised in Kentucky, Anjuli moved to New York in 2007, immersing herself in the city’s vibrant performance community for 10 years. During that time, she trained, performed, and collaborated across a wide range of styles and companies, experiences that continue to shape her artistic perspective with versatility, adventurousness, and a commitment to deep creative inquiry. She was a founding member of Guilty Pleasures Cabaret, a full-length nightlife performance in Manhattan, and performed with companies including David Grenke’s ThingsIsee’m, Melissa Riker’s Kinesis Dance Project, and the Pilobolus PCS Company. From 2011–2015, she toured full-time with Mystic India, a live Indian Classical and Bollywood show, and performed locally with the Ajna Dance Company; in 2011, she was a top 21 contestant on India’s reality dance show “Just Dance.” In addition to performing, Anjuli has produced, choreographed, and directed work for Star TV, created commissioned pieces for the University of Kentucky, and presented her work at festivals including NYC10 Dance Festival. In 2016, she relocated to Havelland, just outside Berlin, Germany, where she continues her creative work, including local video installations, and works full-time as a Yoga instructor.
She is currently training in the Weissmann technique in Berlin with Jennifer Mann and Heidi Weiss, expanding her expertise in somatic-informed, modern-contemporary practices. Her teaching blends contemporary, improvisation, modern-contemporary informed technique, and somatic awareness, cultivating rich spaces for learning, self-discovery, and creative exploration.
Anjuli’s approach to movement is grounded in curiosity, individuality, and connection. Whether guiding technical explorations, leading rehearsals, or facilitating group creations, she invites dancers of all levels to discover strength, fluidity, and presence in their bodies — and to bring their authentic energy into every space they share. Her work celebrates improvisation, reinvention, and the imaginative possibilities that arise when artistry and embodied presence meet.
